Head Size Hibiscus

Missouri can grow ’em big! Hibiscus, bugs, weeds…everything seems big out here in MOLand!

I went to a local nursery yesterday and was amazed how beautiful and vibrant the Hibiscus and Rose of Sharon shrubs are right now. It’s HOT HOT HOT here in August but these two shrubs seem not be bothered by the heat and humidity…in fact, they actually seem to thrive in it. How awesome!

I haven’t done much with either of these shrubs since they don’t grow well in Oregon and that’s all I’ve been exposed to the past 30 years. Getting to know the different types of flowering flora and fauna here in MO has been very interesting and fun!

I wasn’t the only one admiring the big Hibiscus flowers!

Either he’s admiring it or he is stunned by the price tag for the Crepe myrtle behind him. Yikes!

It was a day for flower and insect photo’s! LOL It seemed like the little bumblebee guy was posing for me. 🙂

I absolutely LOVED the Hibiscus and while they aren’t as expensive as the Crepe myrtle (Yowza! I still can’t get over that price!) they aren’t cheap. I’ll have to save up my pennies for planting some next year maybe. In the meantime, I did get some early spring flower seeds started in my breakfast nook this last week. Huzzah!

Go Little Guys! Go! or should I say “Grow Little Guys! Grow!” ?

I’m hoping to get them in the ground by early October for (hopefully) flowering in early spring next year! Prayers appreciated! LOL
