The Start of my Garden

EVERY END IS A CHANCE TO MAKE A NEW BEGINNING
When we moved to MO from Oregon I had a dream that maybe I could start a small roadside farmstand and sell fresh cut flowers. I’m not trying to become the next Floret Farm but only a chance to putter around and do the thing I love to do…grow flowers and brighten others lives by sharing them in some way.
In the middle of winter, with the snow blowing outside and the thermometer read a balmy “35 degrees” outside, I looked through the Swan Island Dahlia catalog and dreamed of warmer days and blooming flowers. Dahlia’s are my favorite flower and I knew they grew very well in Oregon but I had NO idea if they would in the hot Missouri summers.

Taking a chance, I placed a crazy large order and hoped we’d actually have a home and yard big enough to plant them in! Well, fast forward to early summer and I finally got a chance to plant my baby tubers in the hot MO soil at our new home. I didn’t know if they’d survive (I was planting them way later than recommended) and I had no idea if they’d even bloom but I took a leap of faith and planted on…..
Now, 9 weeks later….The first plant bloomed! I am so thrilled to see that happy little flower face show up! I find it ironic that the first one to poke out and do its ‘thang’ is named “Bashful”. LOL

I still have 24 more dahlia plantings to see blooming (see photo below) but I am grateful that I took a chance in the dead of winter and made a decision to go for it…even with so many ‘unknowns’ of success.

Have you ever taken a crazy leap of faith and did something without knowing if it would even work out?? Am I alone here? LOL Tell me about it in the comments below!
Have a Blessed and Wonderfully Gnomie Day!
